But of course, there are going to be some times in which you want to go all out.  For those kinds of occasions, you want to stand your tallest, and float like a butterfly.  Some booties rise up like miniature skyscrapers, putting you six inches off of the ground.  Of course, these do take a little bit more concentration if you want to move around in them well.  You can not just strap these on and then start running laps around a track somewhere.  The higher your booties take you, the more carefully you have to walk.

Anne Hathaway landed on InStyle’s list of the best dressed women at the Golden Globe Awards. Her sparkling Armani gown was a favorite of the critics. She was joined on the list by January Jones, Kyra Sedgewick, Dianna Agron and Natalie Portman. In addition to her stunning necklace, Portman had on a Viktor + Rolf satin gown with a sparkling red rose attached to it. For one thing, the slenderness that has characterized men’s pants for the past few years is relaxed slightly with women’s pants.  After all, as nice as it is to have your legs be hugged by the clothes you wear, it is also nice to be able to move comfortably, and to be treated as a person who has something to say.  Men usually find themselves all but deaf when your outfit is tight, after all.  And when you go into a business situation, you want to be treated like a person who has something to contribute other than your curves.

But of course, you do not have to try and turn yourself into “one of the boys,” either.  The jackets that comprise the modern pantsuits feat relaxed shoulders, reminiscent of the men’s sack suit.  After all, women’s shoulders do not need to be massive in order to look professional.  Another thing about the cuts of these jackets that makes them work well with a woman’s physiology is that they tend to flare downward at the base.  This additional flaring emphasizes your hips, which both keeps you looking feminine and expresses that you have everything a man does.

A man’s silhouette is always going to be different than that of a woman’s.  Between the physical differences like broader shoulders, narrower hips and generally greater height, there is a definite difference between the genders.  But in recent times, women have taken to wearing coats which are cut to be more masculine looking, as well as shoes which resemble wing tips.  Some women have even taken to the previously unusual habit of wearing hats which one would normally only see a man wearing.  The tradition in men’s fashions of a broad chest and shoulders, coupled with thin pants, has ported well to women.

After all, a woman’s body looks very good in slightly more colorful versions of masculine cuts.  With the combination of her bust and artificially broadened shoulders, the overall look of her torso is a very good one.  With that plus the lean quality of thin pants, a woman’s overall length and leanness can be added to in a way that would normally take years of dedicated yoga practice to accomplish.  When a woman takes on the wardrobe traits of a man, she might even become more confident in her life.

Consider that a lot of kinds of booties have cute textures on them.  A pair of velour booties, for instance, can give you a great bit of visual interest.  While that certain someone may or may not consciously notice your choice of footwear, it is pretty hard to ignore that a nice texture caps off any kind of look you might be going for.  After all, great textures make great outfits, no matter where you might be or what you might be up to.  You might as well look good everywhere.

What is really neat about a pair of booties is not just in their textures.  Their colors can also give you that extra burst of cuteness and confidence, either by toning down your look and keeping it grounded (with a deeper color or a black), or by brightening it up with a glossy finish or a bright color (or even more than one).  Booties are one of the best ways to take any outfit from being just okay to being downright gorgeous.  There’s nothing else quite that is quite as good at getting people to look you up and down as some good booties.

This spring, makeup colors will take their influence from the 1970s but in a bold and contemporary way. Instead of hippie-chic, makeup colors will be dramatic and untraditional. Popular choices include eye shadow in shades of green and lavender, blush in bright pink, and nail polish in bright blue and orange.

This season’s green eye shadow is a far cry from the “parrot” look of the 70s and 80s – instead it is a bright jewel tone that looks more like a natural landscape. Rather than huge patches of monochrome green, this eyeshade color is best highlighted with gold and shaded with browns or purples.

Bright pink blush creates a fresh and vibrant look this spring that complements the bold colors in clothing. Broad sweeps of color on the cheeks brings back the fresh-faced look of the 70s but with a modern flair. Circular areas of blush are great for daytime functions, while upward strokes just under the cheekbones create a sculpted, dramatic evening look.

Bold bright colors also dominate nail polish colors this season. The most popular choice is any shade or orange, especially the bright crayon-box shade. A top choice for young and old alike, orange continues to be a favorite choice of the color palette from cosmetics counters to spas and discount stores. Last season’s orange lipstick trend is still influential, but is being rapidly eclipsed by the popularity of orange fingernails. Although it initially seems like an unusual color choice, it is a color that works surprisingly well on all ages and skin tones and with a wide range of clothing colors and themes.

Just when it seemed like skinny jeans were about to take over as the most popular jean cut, flare jeans have made a new comeback this spring. Flares work well on most body types, and there are plenty of variations to find a pair for every occasion.

Throwback flare jeans feature the high waistline that was popular in the 1970s. Updated with contemporary waistbands and closures, today’s high waisted jeans are much more flattering. As an added benefit, they eliminate the muffin-top effect caused by poorly fitting low-rise jeans, and create a sleek line and the look of a nipped-in waist.

Trouser-cut flare jeans are a more relaxed cut. The flare starts above the knee creating extra room and a wider cuff. These are best worn with some sort of heel, as the wide cuff can overpower shorter legs. Kick flares are more fitted through the thigh and knee, and have a more defined flare that starts several inches above the ankle.

Flared skinny jeans are for the die-hard low-rise wearer. These are simply traditional skinny jeans that flare at the ankle. Unlike skinny jeans, they look more like comfortable jeans than leggings.

To get the most out of flare jeans, wear them with a shirt or jacket that tapers at the waist. This will create an hourglass effect that makes the waistline appear much smaller than the shoulders, hips and ankles. The widest flares should be worn only by the very tall, as the excess fabric can easily add the illusion of extra weight. Moderate flares, however, are a contemporary version of the ultra-flattering boot cut with an extra touch of style.

These are not the pastel shades that are reminiscent of 1980s décor – these are bright hues inspired by wildflowers and nature. Bold colors that make a statement are one of the top trends for this spring in clothing, accessories and shoes.

Pink is slated to be one of the most predominant trends. So far on fashion runways it has been paired with other bright colors such as orange and yellow, or with muted earth tones and natural fabrics like linen and white cotton.

For those who are inhibited about wearing a monochromatic outfit in orange, there are plenty of shoes and accessories to incorporate this fresh new color into your style. This year’s fashion collections also feature combinations of bold colors, particularly ones that would not normally go together such as pink and orange or lavender and yellow.
